British Airways

Keep in mind that the travel policies for British Airways I am writing about here are specifically for traveling within the UK and Europe.

As with other airlines, BA offers a tiered ticketing system. If you don’t care where you sit and only have hand baggage, make sure you choose the cheapest option. Otherwise, there are other ticketing tiers which include two different weight limits (20 kgs and 32kgs) and also seat choices.

Now, with British Airways, you can bring on one handbag and one personal item. In our experience, they have not weighed our hand baggage as some other airlines have, which is very convenient if you are not a light traveler. Also, their hand baggage size limits seem to be comparable to those in the US versus the smaller size limits of much more budget-friendly airlines. They do state a weight limit on their website of up to 23kgs for handbag weight, which is the most generous weight allowance I’ve seen.

There are food and drink for purchase. We have found that the difference between this airline and other more budget airlines is that they only take cards for these purchases. This is great–if your card works. Thankfully, we have not had the issues with our American credit cards with purchases on this airline as we have with others!

Besides the more relaxed hand baggage policies and credit card for purchases requirements, I haven’t found any other difference between this airline and other airlines. The staff is genuinely friendly and the food for purchase is decent. The seats are nothing to rave about and there isn’t a whole lot of leg room. I also can see how some travelers would specifically choose to travel with BA for points and mileage reasons.

Overall, we have had good experiences with British Airways.
