*The colosseum was built to hold 50,000 people.
*The construction of the colosseum began in 72 AD under the emperor Vespasian.
*Titus, Vespasian’s son and successor completed the construction in 81 AD. It took only 9 years to build.
*60,000 Jewish slaves worked together to build the colosseum out of stone and concrete.
*They used the colosseum for various things such as gladiator fights, animal hunts, and plays.
*In the 390 years that the colosseum was being used, about 500,000 people died and about 1,000,000 animals died.
*In the medieval period, they used the colosseum for many things such as a Christian shrine and workshops.
