I realize it’s been about 3 weeks since I last wrote. Since then, we moved (yay!), we spent a week in Simi Valley, and we started our first two days of homeschooling. It’s been a whirlwind, but we’re alive and well and continuing to move forward.
Our move went relatively smoothly. We had some wonderful friends come and help, of which I’m so thankful for–it definitely helped counter my lack of motivation to pack!
If you want to get rid of something quick and avoid a dump run, the Craigslist free section is amazing! People LOVE free stuff! We got rid of so much stuff that way and the best part was that they gathered the stuff and moved it for us and were happy to do it! To them it was worth the drive and work to get free stuff—and to us, well, it was worth taking the few minutes to post the items just so we didn’t have to load everything into the dump trailer to head to the dump and wait 3 hours to dump the trailer on free dump weekend! Seriously, it was a plus for both parties!
We spent the week at our new temporary home (Casa de los Denneys aka: the in-law’s house) and found out my husband would get to work the next week in Simi Valley. So, because it’s fairly close and still summer, we decided we should all go. So, we rented an Airbnb for the week and flew down Sunday. I love that we can do that!
We surprised the kiddos and took them to Knotts Berry Farm on Monday. We were going to do Disneyland, but because it’s so outrageously expensive (especially when you have to pay for 6 people) and because you can get into Knotts Berry Farm for more than half the price, we decided Knotts was a better choice this time. And you know? It was really fun! The kids had a blast and it ended up being a really memorable day.
The rest of the week just flew by. We took trips to the LA zoo, Malibu, Huntington Beach, Long Beach and we got to spend a day with my aunt and the kids swam in her pool.
Sunday came way too quickly and the kids and I flew back home while my husband flew to Jamaica for another job. Yes, I’m looking forward to when we can just go with him all the time!
This week we started school and it has started off very well. I’m excited to see how this school year goes.
Now, I’ve been checking off the list of things we’ve needed to get done thus far, but the list keeps growing somehow. I’m realizing that if I focus on the growing list I get overwhelmed…but if I just focus on getting just one thing done at a time, I’m not so overwhelmed by the growing list. Funny how that happens!
